Pair of Functionalist Nightstands, Sweden 1930s

When modernism swept through Scandinavia in the 1930s, carried on the same wave as the German Bauhaus movement, designers threw out the ornament and kept only what mattered — clean lines, honest materials, and the firm belief that function is beauty enough. These nightstands are a perfect little chapter of that story. Chromed tubular frames curve effortlessly around the black-painted cabinets, each finished with a polished ball-knob in chrome. An open shelf above offers a second tier for bedside essentials — a glass of water, a book, a lamp. Nothing more, nothing less. The nightstands remain in good vintage condition, with surface wear consistent with their age and use. The cabinets have been repainted at some point.
