Pair of Glass and Metal Ashtrays by Fontana Arte, 1960s

Milan, 1960s. Fontana Arte, an absolute reference in Italian glass, brought its craftsmanship down to the smallest objects. This pair of square ashtrays is a rare testament to it. Each piece is cut from a thick block of sea-green glass — the house's signature hue — into which a polished circular well is hollowed. The base is rimmed in silvered metal and backed with a period green felt that slides under the glass, an original detail that underscores the quality of the making. Exceptional condition: both ashtrays are immaculate, hardly ever used. The glass is free of chips, and the original felt and metal are preserved. The pieces come from Milan. At 6.5 cm square by 3 cm high, these ashtrays sit on a desk or coffee table, on their own or as catch-alls. An exceptional pair, signed by one of the greatest names in Italian design.
