Set of Four Sandows Chairs by René Herbst, c.1980

A set of four Sandows Chairs designed by René Herbst, retailed through Harrods in the 1980s. Originally introduced at the 1929 Salon d'Automne, the Chaise Sandows features a nickel-plated tubular steel frame with seat and back formed from taut rubber straps. These are later 20th-century editions of one of modernism's defining icons, represented in the collections of MoMA and major international museums.
